Basic Cream Icing


This creamy icing is delicious and versatile! By tinting the icing with color, or adding a touch of flavoring, you can change this icing to suit just about any cookie or occasion. Memorize this recipe – you’ll use it a lot!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cream or 1 tbsp. water

Instructions

  1. Blend together sugar, salt, and flavoring.
  2. Add cream to make easy to spread.
  3. Spread on cookies with spatula or pastry brush.

Makes icing for approximately 3 to 5 dozen cookies, depending on size.

If you’d like to add a flavor other than vanilla, simply substitute that flavor for the vanilla listed above. Try almond, lemon, or peppermint!

Tint the icing with a few drops of food coloring for added color and variety.
