No gathering of cookie recipes would be complete without a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies. There are a lot variations on the basic recipe, but this one is the most traditional, and best! Perfect for after-school, rainy days, and anytime you need to occupy busy kids!

- 2/3 cups butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips (6 oz)
Instructions

- In a small bowl, blend flour, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, thoroughly mix together butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla.
- Slowly stir flour mixture into butter mixture. Mix until creamy.
- Mix in chocolate chips and nuts.
- On an ungreased cookie sheet, place rounded teaspoonfuls approximately 1″ apart.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. (Cookies will be soft)
- Allow cookies to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
Makes approximately 5 dozen 2″ cookies
Note: You may omit the chopped nuts without harming the flavor of the cookies. Also, be aware that if you are using margarine or salted butter you may want to omit the extra salt. For a softer cookie, add 1/4 cup more flour.
Variations: Try milk chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch, or any other flavor of chip for fun variations.
