These sweet cookies are a big hit for Valentine’s Day. Who doesn’t like getting an edible love letter? They are easy to make, and fun to give! Cherry Drop cookies are also good for other love-inspired occasions, such as bridal showers, weddings, and anniversary celebrations.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. lemon zest
- Orange zest (use 1 whole orange)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Ingredients
- Heat oven to 475.
- In a large bowl, measure out flour.
- Blend in sugar and salt.
- Cut in butter and zest until mixture in similar to a coarse meal.
- Blend in sour cream and mix well.
- Divide dough into two equal round balls.
- Working with one half at a time, roll out dough on a well floured board to approximately 1/8″ thick.
- Cut rolled out dough into rectangular pieces approximately 3″x2″.
- Fold corners to center, overlapping slightly.
- Place a candied cherry in center (or cut cherry in half and place half in center).
- Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Brush tops lightly with water and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
